16 More Websites For The Government Web Portal
Increasing Government web presence in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, 3 April 2007 -- The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) continues tirelessly in its efforts to bring government services closer to the people. Another chapter unfolded yesterday with the launch of sixteen [16] more websites under the Government Web Portal.
Wasantha Deshapriya, Programme Director, Re-engineering Government, ICTA points out that the latest additions bring the total number of government websites close to fifty [50]. He also stated that the ICT Agency was instrumental in providing financial and technical assistant to develop these websites.
This is the first phase of the Government Web Development project, where information regarding government services is easily accessible online. The next phase incorporates citizens being able to liaise with the government online as well as receive government services online.
The new government websites include those of the Department of Motor Traffic, Ministry of Road Development, Ministry of Science and Technology, Water Resources Board and the Government Information Centre amongst others.
“The main objective of the project is to increase the web presence of the Sri Lankan Government. We aim to encourage public organizations towards the dissemination of information and delivery of services through the Internet,” said Mr. Deshapriya.
The official launch of these websites will take place on the 29 th of March 2007 at the Distance Learning Centre, Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 07 at 10:00am.
