Alzheimer’s disease may happen to anyone.

, 5 September 2009 -- An appointment is missed, the name of a recently introduced friend could not be recalled, a car key is nowhere to be found--all because they seem to be forgotten. The symptoms could be evident, but you may not be aware that you or your friend or a member of the family is already entering the early stage of Alzheimer’s. There are billions of brain cells that help sustain every person’s memory, but it would not be impossible that they could malfunction at a certain point. If being forgetful is causing a big impact to one’s everyday activities, then it is definitely the right time to learn and know why.

An appointment is missed, the name of a recently introduced friend could not be recalled, a car key is nowhere to be found--all because they seem to be forgotten.

Alzheimer’s disease is a serious brain malfunction that causes cognitive changes and memory loss. It is a common type of dementia, a progressive condition resulting to a long-term decline of cognitive function or the ability of the brain to think. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative form of disorder that can start from mild forgetfulness and progress to an extensive neurological impairment and eventually death. Structural and chemical changes may happen in the brain that destroys its capacity to create, learn, remember, relate, and reason to others. As the critical brain cells die, it will lead to extreme loss of personality and the collapse of body system.

Many fear that memory problems always indicate Alzheimer’s, which is why it is important to note that not all memory loss is associated to the condition. Brain cells normally shrink when people age, causing some changes in the processing speed and short-term memory. Understanding the significance of what is normal and what is not is vital in the early recognition of the illness. The signs and symptoms indicative of the disease must be carefully evaluated and not mistaken with the normal aging, such as the significant memory and cognitive loss. The sudden appearance of the symptoms is most likely caused by the disorder especially if some older family members have the condition too. Early diagnosis of the disease can delay more debilitating symptoms with some medications, although there is no known treatment for the disease itself to this day.

A survey of the different Medicare nursing home would show that there are a significant number of people who has the Alzheimer condition. Although a larger percentage of this encompasses people over 65 years of age, there are few patients that are below the minimum age. Medicare nursing home exclusively for patients with Alzheimer’s has been established in different regions of the United States to answer the growing number of individuals with the disease. Twenty-six million people worldwide have the condition today, and the number is expected to double by year 2050. And because of the rate things are going in connection with the disease, the U.S. government have ensured the public that the Medicare nursing home that have been given license to operate are going by its rules and regulations. This is to give Alzheimer’s patients and their families the assurance that their needs will be taken care of all throughout their stay in a Medicare nursing home.

Know all the significant facts about the Alzheimer's disease. With a Medicare nursing home, it will now be easier to think of a place where family members with the condition can be taken in and cared for.
