Best Company Disaster Recovery Plan

Tel Aviv, Israel (Date): Information technology is used by businesses to process information efficiently and quickly. Employees in the organization make use of e-mail and VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) telephone system for communication. EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is utilized to transmit data such as payments and orders from one company to the other. Employees use laptops, computers and wireless devices to form, process, handle and communicate information. In such a condition, what can one do when information technology fails?

IT can stop working anytime. And you can’t even imagine what could happen in that situation when you are so dependent on it. Therefore it’s wise to design a company disaster recovery plan well in advance.

Data Recovery Strategies

It’s essential for any business to develop recovery strategies for data, applications and IT systems. These strategies should be consistent with the recovery of business processes and functions developed during the business impact analysis. Data resources needed to encourage time-sensitive business processes and functions should be recognized.

Information technology systems need data, software, hardware, and connectivity. If one of these is missing, the system may not run. Hence, while creating a disaster recovery plan, strategies need to be developed based on an anticipation of the loss of one or more of the system components given below:

The environment in the computer room (computer room should be secured with a backup power supply, conditioned and climate control etc.)

Connectivity to a service provider (cable, fiber, wireless etc.)

Data and restoration

Software applications (electronic mail, electronic data interchange, office productivity, enterprise resource management, etc.)

Hardware (servers, networks, wireless devices, laptop, and desktop computers and peripherals)

Certain business processes cannot bear any downtime. They make use of dual data centers having the ability to manage all data processing requirements, which run parallel to data synced or mirrored between two centers. Such a data center disaster recovery is very expensive and mostly only larger businesses can afford it. However, other solutions do exist for small and medium businesses that can protect their critical data and business applications.

Internal Recovery Strategies

Several companies have an access to multiple facilities. In that case, you can configure hardware at an alternate facility to run similar software and hardware applications if required. Supposing that data is data is mirrored between two sites or backed up offsite, you can restore data at the alternate site and continue processing.

All in all, you should go through all these solutions and choose the one that best meets your business needs, so that you can become stress-free.
