Charity Support gets a Brand New Spin: Clubbing for a Cause

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2 July 2009

A local group of Singaporeans are changing the way charities are funded in Singapore.

Singapore, 21 June 2009 -- Conceived by Will Events, Social Touch Media, DoNiceThings and Edvarcl Marketing|PR, the new concept is called Clubbing For Cause (CFC), which leverages on the concept of incidental charity to drive dollars back into charities.

“On average, local fund-raising drives are asking donors to give as a direct act. This raises entry barriers as it requires the donor’s concerted action. Clubbing For Cause (CFC), on the other hand, keeps it simple as donors are incidentally aiding charities while enjoying themselves.” Says Mr Ng Cheng Wei, co-founder, donicethings.org.

Venue-sponsored by Butter Factory, CFC will be organizing the guest list for the event on 25th June. Patrons buying tickets to the event will see their ticket price, in its entirety, donated 100% back to CFC’s first beneficiary, Guide Dogs of the Blind Singapore. The proceeds from the ticket sales will be used by the beneficiary to train new guide dogs for the visually-disabled.

“For the blind and visually impaired, mobility is one of the biggest problems. Giving such a person a guide dog is to give him mobility and independence. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause”Says Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Patron of Guide Dogs Association of the Blind, Singapore.

One thing of note is that for all the mainstream charities which have been enjoying significant funding from big media and event splashes, there are many niche charities that have fell by the wayside. CFC is intended to help address this issue and ensure that charities, regardless of popularity or size, can benefit from the generosity of Singaporeans.

“We are very happy that CFC has recognized us and shared with us an avenue to draw more funds to help the visually-impaired. The cost of training a benificiary to use a guide dog can be exorbitant, but the incalculable joys that the blind derives from a furry guide makes this a worthwhile cause.” Says Mr Kua Cheng Hock, President, Independent Society of the Blind Singapore.

CFC also marks one of the first times that marketing for a charity event is ran exclusively through the social media. Powered primarily with Twitter and Facebook, CFC is banging on the pervasiveness of social networking to propagate and spread the incidental charity ethos to the connected generation.
