“There are secrets to happiness and from the stories received Singaporeans reflected global trends,” said Mr Philip Merry, founder and director of GLA. “Happy Singaporeans reflected the Universal Global Tendencies and supported a lot of findings from Positive Psychology.”
Below are some trends observed:
a. Happy people come from all walks of life, from men and women, young and old, and from all races and economic standing.
b. It is the simple acts of kindness that leave a positive impression in people’s hearts and lives – the word, the act, the service, the smiling face are the things that touch us and make us happy.
d. Happiness is seen most in those who give. Simply nominating someone for this competition made the nominator feel good in sharing their stories.
e. Sharing “happy” stories leads one to notice even more happy people
The stories from the nominations will be compiled into a book called Simply-Happy – the book of the Search for Singapore’s Happiest. This is now in active preparation for publishing, which will be given free to nominators and nominees. All Singaporeans then will be able to hear the 2008 stories.
The 1st Asian New Science of Happiness Conference was fully booked indicating that Singaporeans are interested in having a more joyful life. Mr Merry is already planning for the 2nd Asian Conference in 2009.
