IT Cyber Security Training Points

Jerusalem, Israel (Date): As per the observations of experts, human error, today’s major weak point, is also the easiest for cyber criminals to exploit. Actually, around 90% of cybercrimes are planned and implemented with the help of human error or behavior.

Naturally, it becomes necessary for businesses to provide some sort of IT cyber security training to employees to educate them on the importance of safeguarding sensitive information and which malicious dangers to expect and prepare against.

Being an IT service provider responsible for protecting your clients and their businesses you should arrange for security training and education. Here are some essential components you should cover while offering security awareness training.

1. Social Engineering and Phishing

Social engineering refers to an attack based on cheating users or administrators into revealing information, whereas phishing means acquiring sensitive data (usernames, passwords and payment information etc.) from a person through chat, email or other method and is a common kind of social engineering attack.

The success of phishing and other social engineering attacks is due to the attackers’ skill of being disguised in such a way that they look like coming from trustworthy, credible sources. However, there are still a few indications to help you identify a phishing attempt, e.g. misspellings, typos, a sense of urgency, links consisting of a string of irrelevant letters and numbers and so on.

2. Protecting Yourself from Social Engineering Attacks

Just as you take prompt measures for range security, it’s necessary to take instant measures for protection against social engineering attacks. Here are some best things you and your clients can do in case of a potential phishing attack:

Never Click a Fishy-looking Content

Users should never click a link, attachment or fields of requested information if they feel that there is something fishy.

Inform the IT Team

Informing the right people about a potential scam may prevent it from spreading further. Also, encourage your clients to forward such emails to you for investigation.

3. Passwords, Connection, and Access

Enable your clients to differentiate between general and privileged users. Typically privileged access is offered to users who should access sensitive data or perform administrative-level functions. Each employee must know which level of access they have, meaning which applications, information or functions they can or cannot perform and have or have no access to.

4. Device Security

In the times of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), an increasing number of mobile devices are making their entry to workplaces, linking the corporate network and having an access to company information. This gives rise to more entry points for threats and so, it’s important for employees to make sure their mobile devices are secure enough to connect to the corporate network and are always with them.

Since the same risk that lurks over desktops and laptops apply to mobile devices, employees should be given proper training cyber security regarding mobile devices.

So, experts warn that only if you secure your business from all sides against cyber-attacks, you can get the desired safety and peace of mind.
