ManageSoft Offers Oracle License Compliance
Enables Oracle Customers Early True-Ups and License Optimization
BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire), 17 October 2008 -- ManageSoft -- the leading provider of desktop to datacenter software asset management solutions -- announced today that it will provide an Oracle compliance package option with its new Enterprise Compliance Manager™ (ECM) version 8.0 software scheduled to ship November 17th.
The compliance package includes discovery and inventory of Oracle database instances and options across an enterprise. To determine license entitlement, the package also supports the primary Oracle licensing models: Processor-based and Named User Plus (NUP). ECM incorporates a complex set of rules for these license types to allow optimization against actual use and Oracle license usage rights. Alerts are also provided for compliance drift situations for early detection and correction.
"Oracle is widespread and critical for business applications among the Fortune 1000. Staying compliant with publisher usage rights is challenging in today's IT environments where software can be downloaded, installed, and used with little attention to the associated license rights," noted Alan Swahn, ManageSoft's vice president of marketing and business development. "ManageSoft is enabling its customers to understand how software purchases relate to what is installed, what is actually used, and what use is permitted. This visibility allows under-licensed and over-licensed situations to be corrected early, before a publisher review or audit."
License Compliance Challenges
Oracle and other popular software publishers allow free software downloads and installations from their websites, without license keys or controls. This has an unintended side effect that software may be used without oversight or approval. These downloaded versions count as full products and may result in financial liability that isn't known until a review or audit.
Oracle also has strict licensing rules based on the type and number of server processors running their database instances and options. Enterprises can unintentionally drift out of license compliance following a hardware change or an increase in the number of front-end application users. ManageSoft tackles this complexity by helping its customers monitor and optimize their license position.
