In order to organize adventure sports, there are ideal conditions in Uttarakhand and such activities are being organized by the tourism department for the purpose of developing a state-of-the-art service. Moreover this will surely increase the momentum of local culture, tourism and employment”.
Shri Dilip Jawalkar, IAS, Secretary Tourism shared his views, “The Skiing Competition to be held in Auli is being hosted by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in association with Indian Olympic Association, Uttaranchal Olympic Association and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. The intention of the tourism department is to promote the local environment and biodiversity without hurting the enthusiasm for adventure sports. I sincerely hope that the sports men and women will feel comfortable given the hospitality of the local community and we aim to take that relationship forward”.
To make this event a highlight and to maintain the terrain, the Board had started the project of laying artificial ice in Auli a few months prior. This process was carried out during the nightfall, when the temperature is known to drop below zero degree Celsius. The maintenance of the snow machines was taken care by France’s flagship Company, POMA.
