Recognise Passion & Commitment Towards Sports - Sporting Singapore Inspiration Awards 2006 Singapore, 6 July 2006 -- The stage is once again set for honouring individuals and organisations for their exemplary contribution towards sports promotion in Singapore. The Sporting Singapore Inspiration Awards (SSIA) 2006 is an initiative by the Singapore Sports Council to give recognition to such deserving individuals and organisations for their selfless and unflagging efforts and commitment towards a Sporting Singapore. The Sporting Singapore Inspiration Awards (SSIA) 2006, inaugurated in 2003, recognises individuals, employers and sports partners and sponsors who go the extra mile to encourage, motivate and inspire others to be active in sports. In so doing, they play a key role in bringing about a more nurturing sporting environment and in making sports a way of life in Singapore. Mr Daniel Metcalfe, Chief (High Participation & ID Group) said: “The Sporting Singapore Inspiration Awards is our tribute to people from all walks of life, and organisations big and small, with a passion for promoting and nurturing a sporting culture. "We need to accord these individuals and organisations the recognition they deserve, and to spread the message that they play a significant role in society. We strongly encourage people to nominate their friends, colleagues, employers, or anyone they know of whom in their own special way help to contribute to the health and well-being of fellow Singaporeans through sports. " The SSIA 2006 comprises two broad categories for honouring individuals and organisations: Award Categories Individual Youth (Aged 13 - 21 years) Adults (Aged 22 - 54 years) Senior Citizens (55 years and above) Organisation Sports Advocates (organisations that promote sports to their employees) Sports Partners (partners that have contributed services towards sports promotion) Educational Institutions (schools that provide opportunities for students to be involved in sports) Sports Business (sponsors that contribute resources towards sports industry development) Nominations for the SSIA 2006 are now open till 17 July 2006. This year, winners can look forward to more attractive rewards. The prizes of the individual and organisation categories are : - Individual Category - $1,000 cash prize - Trophy - Framed certificate of commendation - Personal citation in souvenir booklet Organisation Category - Seed funding for the promotion of sports programmes or initiatives of up to $3,000. - Trophy - Framed certificate of commendation - Citation in souvenir booklet This year, SSC is also giving incentives to encourage more nominations. Two exclusive Team Singapore Travel packages to the Asian Games Doha 2006, worth $4,000 each are up for grabs. They will go to two people who make successful nominations. Winners will be notified by SSC in August 2006. The SSIA 2006 ceremony will be held on 25 August 2006. Those interested in making nominations for SSIA 2006 can consider if the individual or organisation meets any of these key objectives in the 2005 calendar year: • Did they help create opportunities and platforms for sporting activities? For example, through sponsorships and by providing venue, resources and equipment. • Did they connect with the community through sports? For example, by marrying sports with community involvement projects or getting the less fortunate to experience the joy of sports. • Did they celebrate the triumph of the human spirit through sports? For example, by overcoming personal or health setbacks through sporting endeavour or by promoting sports as a means to experience physical or emotional achievement and rehabilitation. Nomination forms for SSIA 2006 can be obtained at the SSC’s Sports and Recreation Centres (SRC) or downloaded via the SSIA website at http://www.ssia.com.sg.
