Nutcracker- A Xmas Fairytale on Ice

Singapore, 6 November 2007 -- 29 October 2007 – A sparkling winter setting, a child’s wonderland of magical wishes, the season of giving; “The Nutcracker - Xmas Fairytale on Ice” conjures all the anticipation and excitement of Christmas and the joy it brings.

This December, experience world-class ice dancing in all its splendor at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Retelling the world’s most beloved holiday fairy tale, “The Nutcracker - Xmas Fairytale on Ice” will feature dazzling performances by two times World Professional Figure Skating and U.S. Open Champions, Elena Leonova & Andrei Khvalko, and many more.

In A Nutshell

The Nutcracker Suite, with its lavish decor and dazzling character dance pieces, has become one of the greatest classics of the holiday season. No other production succeeds so well in depicting the marvel of a childlike dream world. Everything becomes possible: toys come alive, flowers dance and princes transporting princesses to a world of ‘happy-ever-after’.

The fairytale begins when a young girl, Masha, receives a Nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve. Jealous of the beautiful gift, her brother snatches the doll and in the tussle, the Nutcracker is broken. With a tear in her eye, Masha falls asleep holding her broken doll only to dream of being kidnapped by a wicked Rat King and his army of mice. In her dream, the Nutcracker bravely attempts to rescue her from their clutches. When the Nutcracker is injured in the battle that ensues, Masha intervenes to finally defeat the evil Rat King. With the wicked rodent’s spell broken at last, the Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince. Together, Masha and her prince embark on a fantastic journey through the enchanted lands of Snowflakes, Candy and Fantasy. Masha finally wakes from her dream, cradling her magically restored doll with a heart full of enchanting Christmas memories!

A Musical Masterpiece

The “The Nutcracker – Xmas Fairytale on Ice” will feature Tchaikovsky’s exquisite compositions: ‘Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy’, ‘Trepak’ (Russian Dance), ‘Arabian Dance’, ‘Chinese Dance’ and ‘Waltz of the Flowers’.
