Winchester School of Art on the look out for the next generation of ‘Louis Vuittons’
India, 31 October 2009
-- The University of Southampton’s Winchester School of Art in the UK is searching the globe for the next big name in the world of fashion, fashion accessories and fragrances. The School is launching a new pathway in Luxury Brand Management, as part of its MA Design course, which will concentrate on helping students design, develop and market ‘high end’ products for discerning customers.
“There is a huge array of brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Prada, available to sophisticated consumers willing to pay a premium for what they see as the very best. The worldwide recession means people value what they buy even more and want it to last and be of the highest quality,” comments Programme Leader for MA Fashion Management, David Birks.
“The luxury fashion sector is dominated by privately owned companies and is highly competitive and high risk. This course will help our students to gain the management skills they will need to succeed in this tough market and develop the right brand, in the right place and at the right time. ”
Successful applicants for the course will also get first-hand experience of the development of luxury brands on a three-week work placement within a design-led company and spend two weeks studying in European cities with a heritage of design, art and culture.
“We need the highest calibre of students for this pathway. They will already have three years’ experience of the cut and thrust of the world of work, an eye for quality products and will understand their place in the market,” says David Birks.
David Birks and the Head of Graphic Arts at Winchester School of Art, Ed D’Souza, will conduct interviews in Mumbai on October 31st 2009 and New Delhi for places on the course on the 3 and 4 November 2009.
