Rogue Securities Trader to Present at Burton Group Catalyst Conference

Nick Leeson to Discuss the Limitations of Governance, Risk and Compliance With Enterprise IT Organizations

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire), 9 May 2008 -- Burton Group, a research firm focused on in-depth analysis of enterprise technologies, today announced that Nick Leeson, the securities bank trader responsible for the collapse of Barings Bank in 1995 will address compliance and risk management issues at Catalyst Conference North America to be held in San Diego, June 23 - 27, 2008.

On June 26, Leeson will talk frankly about the Barings Bank incident including the lack of accounting safeguards that led to his sentence of 6 years by the Singapore court for forgery and cheating.

Burton Group analysts will draw upon Leeson's experience and the recent unauthorized trading activities of Jerome Kerviel to address governance, risk and compliance (GRC) management in the enterprise.

According to Bob Blakley, Burton Group VP and research director, the IT security market has developed a plethora of GRC automated tools, but these products cannot do the whole job. "At Catalyst, we will address GRC as a process and will clarify the distinctions between senior management governance activities, risk management approaches, and compliance automation technologies," says Blakley.

Renowned for in-depth discussion of substantive IT issues, Catalyst brings together over 2,000 attendees from Fortune 500 and Global 2,000 companies to learn about and discuss significant technology topics and complex issues facing enterprise IT organizations.

This year, Catalyst will focus on six pivotal areas transforming the future of enterprise IT:

* Building the Dynamic Data Center

* Identity Management: Are We There Yet?

* Security Vital Signs

* Everything Wireless

* Succeeding with SOA

* The New Ways of Work

About Nick Leeson

The collapse of Barings Bank (personal bank to HM The Queen) in 1995, and Nick Leeson's role in it, is one of the most spectacular debacles in modern financial history. How could one trader bring down the banking empire that had funded the Napoleonic Wars? Following Barings' collapse, Nick Leeson was sentenced to six and half years in a gang-ridden Singaporean jail, in conditions that defy belief. At the same time, his wife left him and he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Against all odds, he survived and now fully recovered from cancer, lives happily in Ireland with second wife Leona and three children. Nick is now one of the UK's most sought-after speakers. In the aftermath of the AIB trading scandal in New York, and the collapse of Enron and Worldcom, and the huge loss at Societe Generale, Nick provides a fascinating insight into the continuing failures of senior and middle management at large corporations who still fail to protect shareholders and customers.
