SFI signs MOU with MAFC to supply fresh and safe vegetables to Singapore market

Singapore, Malaysia, 29 July 2008 -- Malaysian Agrifood Corporation Berhad (MAFC) has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore Food Industries Limited (SFI) which appoints SFI as its exclusive sales agent in Singapore. This MoU serves to strengthen relations between both corporations and will grant SFI the exclusive rights to distribute a range of quality vegetables and fruits from Malaysia.

MAFC is Malaysia’s first fully integrated food supply chain company engaged in the production, supply and delivery of top quality fresh fruits and vegetables. MAFC is focussed on stimulating the agriculture industry to global standards of safety, quality and sustainability and is committed on using cutting edge technologies as enablers throughout its supply chain management.

SFI’s key responsibility would be to ensure the maintenance of distribution quality and the cold chain for the point of deliveries in Singapore. Currently, SFI runs the largest fleet of temperature controlled vehicles and manages one of the largest operating cold-room warehouse facilities in Singapore.

This collaboration will enable both parties to have an unbroken cold chain and a traceability of the vegetables and fruits throughout the supply chain.

MAFC’S CEO, Azizi Meor Ngah said: “MAFC believes in fostering strategic collaborations with leading food companies, to take advantage in the transfer of knowledge between corporations, as MAFC is pursuing the objective of becoming an efficient food supply chain manager in the region. The impact of globalization places high value on the knowledge economy and corporations must rise to the challenges of creating and sharing knowledge today.”

Roger Yeo, CEO, Singapore Food Industries said, “This joint effort combines our expertise and resources to develop a superior cold chain and distribution arrangement in the Singapore market for fresh vegetables and fruits. Alvin Chua Heads this Division as GM.”
