Singapore Computer Systems Completes Rollout of Integrated Pharmacy System for National Healthcare G
Singapore, 24 May 2007 -- Singapore Computer Systems Limited (SCS), a leading information and communications technology service provider in Asia, has completed the implementation of SCS’ integrated Pharmacy System (iPharm) throughout Singapore’s National Healthcare Group (NHG). The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) is the latest and the final member of the NHG cluster to complete the iPharm implementation.
“The delivery of iPharm for IMH marks the completion of the iPharm implementation for the NHG cluster. This is a significant milestone for SCS, and our next step is to bring iPharm to other hospitals
and polyclinics. We also hope to bring iPharm to retail pharmacies so that prescriptions can be obtained from any pharmacy in Singapore, thus fulfilling the vision of a single centralised pharmacy
network for Singapore,” said SCS’ President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tan Tong Hai.
“NHG now has a centralised pharmacy system across the cluster with the integration of iPharm and the Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Having a common patient records and drug information
system means that our healthcare professionals are able to make better informed decisions and provide better service to patients. A common system also allows our institutions to reap the benefits of
economies-of-scale and harmonised processes,” said Mr Linus Tham, Chief Information Officer, NHG.
Dr Tan Weng Mooi, Chief Operating Officer of IMH said, “Patient safety is the top priority for us. One key feature of iPharm is its integration to the Ministry of Health’s Critical Medical Information Store (CMIS) system, which provides online access to all patient drug allergies recorded in Singapore’s healthcare institutions. iPharm is able to alert our doctors and pharmacists to patients’ drug allergies which of course leads to safer care.”
iPharm is a patient-centric web-based enterprise integrated pharmacy system that provides a fullyautomated workflow process between consultation rooms and the pharmacy. With e-prescription,
orders are sent electronically to the pharmacies which will start to pack the medications while patients are on their way to the pharmacies. This means higher service quality and shorter waiting times at the pharmacies for patients. Crisis management is also improved as contact and drug tracing becomes more efficient and effective in the event of a drug recall since all the data is available in a central database.
