To get started as a freelance writing working from home you need a computer, word editing software and an internet connection. Generally the skills required to write freelance content are lower and do not require specialized training or credentials. Writers would search job ads and apply or post their services on micro job or freelance websites for buyers to review and order. Typically in micro job and freelance markets writing jobs along with data entry and search engine optimization (SEO) tend to be the most active and ordered by buyers making this type of work more profitable than others. Even though a University degree or college diploma is not required, some freelances that have credentials may list them in their service ad to attract more buyers. It is always good to advertise relevant skills; however, most of the freelance writing jobs are simple requiring 300-500 words on a specific topic such as trains, cooking or knitting. Most often buyers will supply a few reference articles that they want writers to base their article on; however, writers should be prepared to use Google or a search engine to do a little research if unfamiliar with the article or content topic. It is important that the content delivered by writers is unique and free from plagiarism. Plagiarism may not only be morally wrong but duplicating copyrighted material is illegal.
A major misconception writers have when looking for freelance work is that they have to apply for jobs but freelancers can post their services on many micro job and freelance websites. In fact freelance writers can post and offer their services on several websites without breaking any rules. It is like trying to sell your car and being able to park your car with a for sale sign on every car dealerships lot in the country - your odds of getting work increase dramatically the more you put your services out there. The more successful you are in obtaining work the more you will grow your client base, be recommended and build your client base. Another misconception is that writers need to be journalists or English majors but this is incorrect because most buyers in the global market looking to hire freelancers are looking to have simple content wrote for their blog, website or brochure. Buyers or employers are looking to save time because they are busy and have many jobs to do to operate their business; therefore, writing work is easier for employers to outsource because it requires less skill and can be assigned with little supervision or direction.
There are many different types of writing jobs that freelancers may pursue including article or script writing, copy typing, translation, web or technical content, resume or cover letters and press release writing. The number of different categories increases the opportunities and allows writers to gravitate towards they type of writing that they enjoy the most.
To obtain freelance work and write for money search the internet to find micro job and freelance websites, most of which allow you to register and post or advertise your freelance services for free. Some freelance writers also use general classified websites such as Craigslist or Kijiji to advertise their writing skills. The more platforms you offer your services on the more freelance opportunities you may receive.
