"The King And I" Calls for Auditions to Cast Local Children in Renowned Musical
Singapore, 4 April 2007 -- Citystate Arts & Events Management Pte Ltd announced today that auditions to cast fourteen local children in the renowned, award-winning Broadway musical, “The King and I” , will be held on 26 May 2007.
Organised in conjunction with Kids’ Central and the Julia Gabriel Centre, Citystate Arts & Events Management is auditioning for Asian and pan-Asian looking kids ages 7 to 14, with heights ranging between 109 and 163 centimetres tall. The final 14 selected will be cast as the little princes and princesses in this internationally-acclaimed classic. In particular, Citystate Arts is looking for a pair of twin girls aged between 8 and 11 years old.
Based on the real-life adventures of the English widow, Anna Leonowens, and the best-selling novel, “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon, “The King and I” is a fascinating tale about a clash of customs.
Set in the 1860’s in Bangkok, the exotic capital city of Siam, this intriguing East meets West story about a Thai monarch and a British governess is one of the most memorable and longest-running revival of a Rodgers and Hammerstein’s production on Broadway.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing this well-loved musical to Singapore for the first time,” says Leow Siak Fah, Chairman, Citystate Arts & Events Management Pte Ltd. “Singaporeans can better relate to this critically-acclaimed musical as local children are cast as little princes and princesses.”
The Tony-Award winning musical - featuring ornate sets and costumes and a dazzling score by Rodgers and Hammerstein with memorable songs such as “Hello Young Lovers”, “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, “Shall We Dance?” and “Getting to Know You” – promises to thrill audiences young and old.
Presented by the United Overseas Bank (UOB), “The King and I” will be showing at the Esplanade theatres from 6 to 26 August 2007. To register for the auditions and for more information, please visit: http://www.thekingandi.com.sg.
Broadway Asia’s Child Advance Associate, Kate Wen, who is the chief judge for the auditions will be speaking on “So You Think You Can Act?” at the Library@Esplanade on 25 May 2007. The talk focuses on preparing for auditions and performances in theatre. For more information, please visit: http://www.thekingandi.com.sg.
