Top Universities in U.K. Accept TOEFL(R)
PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire), 8 August 2008 -- More than 135 top educational institutions in the U.K. -- including the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and the London School of Economics -- accept TOEFL test scores, according to Educational Testing Service. The TOEFL® test is the world's most popular English language exam.
According to the United Kingdom's Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), China and India send the greatest number of students each year to study in the U.K. For these and many other countries, the TOEFL test is an essential part of the admission process.
The TOEFL test has been used for admissions by U.K. universities almost since its beginning in the early 1960s. Since that time, use of the TOEFL test has grown to the point where more than 6,000 institutions worldwide, including 4,300 colleges and universities in the United States, now use it to measure the English-language proficiency of international student applicants. It is also the only university admission exam delivered and scored over the Internet. Within the last two years alone, an additional 850 institutions have become TOEFL score users.
"For thousands of international students each year, the TOEFL test is an important part of the admissions process for acceptance at top universities in the United Kingdom," says Philip Tabbiner, Senior Vice President of ETS Global, K-12 Learning & Development and Business Development. "Universities there have relied upon the TOEFL test for nearly 50 years, and we welcome the newest user -- the University of Manchester School of Medicine."
A complete list of institutions in the United Kingdom that use or require TOEFL is available at http://www.ets.org/toefl/ukdirectory.
