Unbridled Talents Unleased At Singapore Battle of The Bands 2006
Local Rock Act RONIN Guest Stars
Singapore, 1 September 2006 -- The stage is set for the unveiling of Singapore’s latest undiscovered singing talents. No gimmicks. No stunts. No idols. Just pure unadulterated music showmanship. Get set for the annual Singapore Battle of the Bands finals Live on Sunday 10 September at Downtown East.
14 bands have been whittled down from more than 100. Up for grabs is the coveted title of Singapore’s Ultimate Band. The winning band will also walk away with $3,000 cash, a $3,000 recording contract with local label, Mindseye Record and a host of other prizes including a custom-made JIM BEAM Gibson Guitar worth $1,800 and $1,300 worth of NTUC Club vouchers. The judges, made up of record producers and musicians will be on the lookout for the Best Guitarist, Drummer, Bassist and Vocalist as well.
The event, into its 4th year running has attracted a diverse range of talents and continues to be an avenue for unearthing gems in the music and entertainment scene. Quebec Leisure International, the events management arm of NTUC Club is the main organizer for Battle of the Bands 2006. Its Senior Manager (Business Development Mega Events) Joe Ferdinands said: “Battle of the Bands has been getting a reputation as a serious competition for music showmanship. We’re not just looking for the next commercial success. We’re here to develop young up & coming musicians by providing them a visible platform to showcase their skills. The recording contract for example, is a major leg-up for a struggling band looking for its big break.”
Mr. Ferdinands added: “Battle of the Bands is one of many ongoing initiatives by NTUC Club to engage and develop youths. This is in line with the recently announced LM 2011 where the aim is for the labour movement to reach out to people of all ages. Who would expect NTUC to be organizing such an edgy and alternative event? But the truth is we’ve been doing it for the past 4 years and it’s been a rewarding and successful 4 years!”
Testimony to the competition’s growing success, Battle of the Bands, this year attracted its highest number of participants. The bands coming forward are also more eclectic. “We have bands flaunting their musical acumen in genres as diverse as indie, rock, metal, pop and even blues,” said Mr. Ferdinands.
Guest band during the finals will be radio chart-toppers and one of Singapore’s most prolific live-wire rock outfit, recording artiste RONIN. The 5-member band, led by vocalist Levan Wee, is set to enthrall fans with songs from their debut album ‘Do or Die’.
