USTDA Supports Growth and Development in the Middle East and North Africa Power Sector

Advancing Administration's Goals of Deploying Renewable Energy Sources

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire), 15 February 2010 -- Underscoring the President's commitment to supporting growth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), as well as his goal of deploying new and innovative renewable energy technologies, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will sponsor MENA POWER 2010: A Middle East and North Africa Technology and Projects Forum on May 24 - 26, 2010 at the Conrad Cairo Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

24 - 26, 2010 at the Conrad Cairo Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

The forum will match policymakers and project sponsors from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, the West Bank and Yemen with U.S.-based technology and financing options to help meet the region's growing energy needs.

Organized by USTDA, in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service and the U.S. Department of State, the Forum will promote long-term strategic and commercial relationships between the Middle East, North Africa and the U.S. power industry.

"USTDA is pleased to further efforts to develop clean and renewable energy resources in the Middle East and North Africa power sector as a foundation for economic growth," said Leocadia I. Zak, USTDA's Acting Director. "We look forward to bringing together key power sector stakeholders and technology providers from the region and the United States to facilitate ongoing collaboration."

"While these opportunities are good for the environment, they also create jobs and spur growth and development," Zak said.

The two-and-a-half-day conference agenda will focus on sector development, policy issues, and financing options, as well as project opportunities in areas such as gas-fired combined cycle, cogeneration, solar, wind, hydro, biomass, integrated desalination/power, rural electrification, transmission and distribution upgrades, smart grid and regional interconnections.
